Xbox 10% digital trade-in survey was just "exploratory" - Microsoft
The Xbox survey asking if customers would be interested in selling back digital game titles was nothing to get excited over, says Microsoft.
According to Xbox marketing executive Aaron Greenberg, via Gamespot, it was only an "exploratory" survey and there are no current pans to offer a buyback program.
Speaking with industry analysts Michael Pachter and Colin Sebastian on Twitter, Greenberg said Microsoft isn't "actively planning" to allow customer to seel digital titles back for 10% of the purchase price.
"We are not actively planning such a thing; surprised it was even asked in a survey," he said. [We're] always asking questions to understand the needs of our fans. No need to worry."
When the survey hit on Monday, both analysts suggested such a program from Microsoft could impact its business dealings with retailers such as GameStop or Best Buy.
Sebastian said offering digital trade-ins could "create some noise near term" for GameStop's used games business, he noted the suggested 10% was well below the current trade-in average at the retailer.
