Dark Souls 3 boss: how to beat Oceiros, the Consumed King
Ha! Thanks for showing up.
Dark Souls 3 boss: how to beat Oceiros, the Consumed King
So this guy used to be king of Lothric, but he got obsessed with dragons and doing weird magic and now look at him. He’s gone off the deep end a bit, poor chap.
The good news is, this fight isn’t that tough! After Dragonslayer Armour, you can do anything, and this guy is nothing. Equip yourself for lightning damage to make it even more laughable.
The trick with Oceiros is to keep him focused on melee. He has a nasty flying magic breath attack, which can be upsetting, but as long as there’s something nearby for him to take a swing at, he generally sticks to physical attacks. Hawkwood is actually very helpful here; he doesn’t do that much damage but he keeps the boss busy.
Oceiros's swings are easily blocked with a good shield, and you can avoid most of his attacks just by cuddling up close to him on one side and circling with him. Keep your shield up and even if he lands a direct blow you’ll have enough stamina left to take a few swings after he attacks. Roll away if necessary to get your stamina back up between bouts of attacking.
In the second phase, Oceiros drops to all fours. Reposition to try and be behind him rather than to one side; he performs a tail whip here but as long as your shield is up it’s no big deal. If you get in front of him he’ll do dash attacks, which are a much bigger problem.
Magic users will find this a little more difficult, but not impossible; use the cover around the arena to dodge out of the way of Oceiros’s attacks until he commits to a dash, then use this time to get in an attack and put yourself at a distance again. You may want frost protection for his breath move, though, as he’ll use it more often when attacked at range. Oceiros is strong against pure magic, so opt for fire, lightning or melee if you can.
Because this is an optional area and also horrible, it can be very hard to get summons before Oceiros. Bring Hawkwood and settle down for a wait, then take whatever you can get; you’ll be fine.
When the boss goes down you’ll receive Soul of Oceiros and can activate the Oceiros, the Consumed King bonfire. Moreover you can open the doors to the next area, which is a lot of fun. Ah ha ha.
