The Bard's Tale 4 is well on the way to its ambitious fundraising target.

InXile is seeking $1.25 million for The Bard's Tale 4 and is almost certainly going to get it. Within three days of launching on Kickstarter, the project has raised $1 million.

Over 23,000 backers have contributed so far.

The campaign will run for over a month still, but many punters are getting on board early thanks to a free game offer for those who back The Bard's Tale 4 in the first week.

The Bard's Tale 4 is a sequel to the classic Brain Fargo fantasy RPG series that has no relation to the unpopular 2004 parody reboot. Take a look at the Kickstarter and see if it's up your alley; there's some in-engine footage available, too.

If (when) successful, The Bard's Tale 4 is coming to Linux, Mac and PC.

InXile has so far held two very successful Kickstarter campaigns for old-school style games. Wasteland 2 released in 2014, while Torment: Tides of Numenera is expected this year. The indie likes to have at least two projects on the go at all times so that it doesn't need to lay-off team members when their role on current projects ends.
