Hellraid development put on hold, being sent "back to the drawing board"
Development of Techland's Hellraid has been put on hold, according to a notice posted on the official website.
The dark fantasy game was announced as Project Hell in 2013, with single-player, four-player co-op and online modes each with randomly generated content.
Hellraid starred Nolan North as Aiden who along with an elderly mage must stop infernal forces from taking over the game world.
"We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold," reads the statement from Techland. "In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project.
"Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew. In the meantime, we will consolidate our development resources and focus on further expansion of our Dying Light franchise."
Hellraid was originally slated for a 2013 release but was eventually pushed into 2014.
Last spring, Hellraid was re-announced for release in 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a digital-only title. Last-gen versions of the game were nixed as Techland was rebuilding the game using a modified version of its Chrome Engine 6.
