ESPN radio host says he will retire if forced to cover eSports
Colin Cowherd covers sports on ESPN Radio and ESPNU, and he is not a fan of eSports. Matter of fact, if he is ever forced to cover a tournament, he says he will retire from ESPN.
What set Cowherd off was Blizzard's Heroes of the Dorm tournament being aired on ESPN2 yesterday. The Heroes of the Storm tournament was open to college students, with the winning team earning free tuition for the rest of the winning team’s college career.
According to SportsGrid, the former co-host of ESPN2's SportsNation said if people want him off the air, demand eSports tournaments to be shown on the main ESPN network channel.
"Here’s what’s going to get me off the air: if I am ever forced to cover guys playing video games, I will retire and move to a rural fishing village and sell bait," Cowherd said on his radio show The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
"You want me out? Demand video game tournaments on ESPN because that’s what appeared on ESPN2 yesterday. I tolerated Donkey Kong. That was the equivalent of me putting a gun in my mouth and having to listen to that."
As SportsGrid notes, ESPN covers many competitions which are considered "fringe sports" by some such as Poker, pool, darts and even eating contests.
