Destiny: Crota's Sword now available in public events
Destiny players: wanna know how to get Crota's Sword outside the eponymous mission? We have you covered.
Destiny develoepr Bungie just loves sneaking things into the game with patches without telling anyone, and this one's a doozy.
A new public event has been added to the roster, and it gives one participant a go at wailing on enemies with Crota's Sword, last seen in action in The Sword of Crota story mission on the Moon.
The event is called Blades of Crota, and its available on Earth in the Steppes, Mothyards and Divide, and on Earth in the Anchor of Light and Hellmouth. It does not yet appear to have been added to fan-made resources like Destiny Public Events, so you'll just need to hang around and hope, unfortunately.
Shortly after the event begins you should see the message "The Minions of Crota have started a ritual. The Blades of Crota have invaded this world" appear on the HUD. A Major (yellow) Hive Knight will spawn. Kill the Knight and it'll drop its sword.
One player can then grab the sword, and for the next 60 seconds go crazy on the Hive. Magnificent.
If you've forgotten how the sword works, here's a primer: the perspective changes to third-person. You can still use grenades, but your melee attack is replaced by a slash of the sword with a short dash, which you can hit multiple times for a combo, auto-targeting nearby enemies. Hitting the right trigger performs a stronger, overhead slash. Hitting the super buttons does an even stronger overhead attack with a leap and small area of effect damage.
The latest Destiny patch was nominally all about Exotics, and even though we knew this was coming eventually, it's an excellent surprise. Swords will also be used in the new raid, Crota's End.
