Avalanche Studios working on a mobile title slated for release this year
Just Cause developers Avalanche Studios are working on a new mobile title, the company's founder Christofer Sundberg has announded.
Speaking with Polygon, Sundberg said it's a new IP which it first pitched to publishers in 2006. Unfortunately, "few were interested."
"At the time most publishers wanted nice, high-end graphics and photorealistic environments, while this was more stylized similar to what Borderlands is today," he said. "I don't know how to describe it. It's sort of a management fighting game."
Sunderberg said the 'fighting' is more along the lines of the kind in Command & Conquer.
"We had a team that asked if we, as a company, were interested in going to the mobile space," Sundberg said. "We assigned a budget and we let them play around with different concepts for a while. This was one that really, from a creative standpoint, really touched a nerve with me.
"So we just decided to explore the mobile world with one game at first, and then we'll see if that works. If it does, then we'll definitely do more mobile games."
Avalanche plans to release the game this year, and if all goes well, it may eventually be released on consoles.
The firm's Mad Max title is without a release date, but is slated for PC and next-gen consoles.
