Planetside 2 to update weekly on Wednesdays
Sony Online Entertainment has unveiled ambitious plans to deliver fresh material to eager Planetside 2 players every single week.
The Planetside 2 team has been hard at work reorganising its build and development process to enable more frequent updates.
"I'm really excited to announce that starting next Wednesday we will begin doing weekly game updates," creative director Matt Higby wrote in a post on the shooter MMO's forums.
As well as allowing SOE to more rapidly deal with bugs and balance issues without resorting to hotfixes, the team plans to release all new content more frequently - but in smaller, less risky doses.
"Each individual update will be smaller and more focused, with fewer moving parts that can break, which we hope will greatly decrease the number of bugs being introduced when we update," Higby explained.
"This doesn't mean that we're not still working on bigger features and larger content pieces, we definitely are and they'll be slotted into the weekly schedule as they're ready to be released."
The first of these updates will be quite small, but will icnrease in size over the next few months.
SOE will also be updating the test server more often.
Planetside 2 is on the way to PlayStation 4, where SOE boss John Smedley expects it to rival Halo.
