PayDay 2 may get a versus mode in next iteration, says director
PayDay 2 director David Goldfarb has said the team is considering a versus mode for the game, but due to the size of such a change, it may be better to implement the mode in a sequel.
Speaking with RPS, Goldfarb said the team has talked about allowing players to plays as two teams: cops and robbers, and will likely continue to discuss it.
"The one thing, without going into too much detail, is we made a lot of decisions on this game that were ambitious and risky, and one of the reasons that we were able to get it out on time and make it generally a good game is that we didn’t entertain a lot of stuff that was outside of our core focus, and the core focus is not versus," he said.
"The core focus is co-op. So when we revisit whatever we’re going to do for the next one maybe that’ll change. When you make a versus game it puts you in a different place, and then your attention is kind of split. And having been on the Battlefield side of things [Battlefield 3 and Battlefield: Bad Company- ed], and we’re doing single-player and co-op, and multiplayer - they all kind of suffer in their own ways.
"It was good that we kept our focus and enabled us to finish this game. Now I’m not going say we would never consider it, but that’s what we did on this one."
The firm announced earlier this week that PayDay 2 sold 1.58 million copies since launch, 80% of which were digital.
The game also landed at number eight on the NPD top 10 for August.
