Final Fantasy 2: Rare NES cart selling on eBay for $50,000
Final Fantasy 2 launched on NES in 1988 but never came out in the West. Until now that is. Someone is selling what could be the world's only American FInal Fantasy 2 cartridge, but it'll cost you. A lot.
The cartridge is currently being bid on over at eBay, complete with item description, shots of the insides and more.
Although it was never sold over here, this Final Fantasy 2 cartridge is a fully working demo model that was created by Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) for the 1991 Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas - similar to an early build you might see showcased at E3 or gamescom.
The item description reads, "A pre-production sample cartridge for any video game from this era is rare indeed, but for one to survive for a game that was never actually released is something of a miracle. Having that unreleased game be a part of one of the most important franchises in video game history is basically unheard of."
"I have been the proud owner of this cartridge for over nine years now, and as far as I am aware, this is the only legitimate copy of the game that exists. Any other copies you have seen of Final Fantasy II for the NES have been bootlegs, this is the real deal."
So if you have some spare rainy day cash, well, you probably won't be able to afford it. Let's not kid ourselves. Still, it'd be a fine thing to own.
Thanks Kotaku.
