Japanese charts – PSP reigns, Dragon Quest back on top
Media Create has released the unit sales chart for Japanese hardware and software for the week ending May 1, and it finds PSP still on top, and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 back on top of the software charts.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 comes back
Nintendo’s Pokemon typing may have topped the software chart during the last reporting period, but the latest Media Create data shows you can't keep a good monster down. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 - Professional for NDS came back with a vengeance, moving 73,729 units for the week, while the previous winner fell to the fifth spot.
Final Promise Story debuted for the week at number two, moving 60,435 units for PSP, and Ignition's PS3 offering, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, moved 58,105 units to take the three spot while the Xbox 360 version of the game debuted at number 14 with 8,823 units moved. Actual unit sales for the title hit 66,928- making it the second best selling title on the chart when you combine the two versions.
Other new titles that hit the top 20 during the week were: Patapon 3, Starry Sky: In Winter Portable, The Maidens Are Falling in Love with Me 2 - Two Elders (Otome wa Oanesama Boku ni Koi Shiteru Portable: 2 - Jin no Elder), and Hakuouki: Yuugi Roku DS.
Pokemon Black and White was back int he top 20 this week, after falling to 23 last week.

Hardware has a great week with one exception
For the second week in a row, PSP took the hardware charts by moving 76,974 units. It's closest rival, 3DS moved 28,413 units which is paltry compared to the Sony handheld and a downright beating in the marketplace with a 48,561 unit difference in PSP's favor.
PS3 moved 23,954 consoles, and PS2 moved 1,582. PSPgo was the only hardware offering to show unit decline over last week when it moved 14 extra units compared to the week ending May 1.
3DS may not has moved as much as PSP this week, but unit sales were still up 5,375 units over the week prior. Older NDS models continued to show growth, with DSiLL moving the most out of the offerings with 2,171 over last week.
Wii sales were up 3,023 units to 10,889.
Xbox 360 moved 4,082 units for the week, which is a 2,191 unit increase over the week prior.
