Just to clarify, I spammed the original poster, who was a spam bot, but hey, if people want to talk about cartoons, feel free.
I'm making my way through The Venture Bro's right now.

Archer. There is no show in the vicinity of Archer. I'd even go as far as to say that it is the funniest show on TV currently. Possibly ever.
I recommend anyone and everyone to try it.

2. Robotech
3. Cowboy Bibop
4. Mtv's Aeon Flux
5. Animatrix
6. Batman: Gotham Knight
7. Ranma 1/2 (funniest shit I ever seen)I tried to stay away from animated movies such as Sky Crawlers, Howl's Moving Castle, etc since the word show mentioned in the topic's title.. There are other animes and cartoons I liked a lot and I still do but the first 3 titles are the best things I experienced in the world of animation. Catdog, cutlas, Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, Berserk, Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, Highschool of the Dead, Death Note and Black Lagoon. And no I hate DragonBallz, Pokemon, Naruto...

GwynbleiddiuM Man i forgot about Ghost in the Shell man it will be a tie between that and FLCL, the rest is the same, samurai champloo was good, it will be on my top 20 for sure and animes also like ninja basilisk, ninja scroll (the movie), Rurouni kenshin, ouran high host club, welcome to the nhk , but it will be hard to put those on my top 10, there is a lot of great animes out there, and i didnt even wacthed, although i do own them, code geass, madoka magica, shiki, gurren langan, kaze no yojimbo, and a ton more, right now iam seeing occult academy which is good so far episode 3.
p.s and ranma 1/2 is one of the best comedy anime out there, it is on my top 5 comedy anime list, with azumanga, ouran, irresponsible captain taylor and arakawa under the bridge, but that will need another trend, man they are so many great animes and cartoons out there.Posted 11 months ago # -

- The original X-Men cartoon. Seriously, why has nobody else mentioned this?! RAAAAAGE! The show holds up surprisingly well to this day, and many of its themes and stories can be well appreciated as an adult.
- The first ten seasons of the Simpsons, when the show was still relevant, funny and capable of telling genuine stories. Those were some damn good stories. I absolutely detest brainless and childlishly "offensive" shows like Family Guy and South Park.
- Spongebob SquarePants: Yes, really. Most kids find this show hilarious, but as a grown adult it amazes me how much subtle (and not so subtle) adult humour these guys manage to pack into this show all the time. It never fails to make me laugh.
- Animaniacs: And by extension, Pinky and the Brain. I don't think television has ever topped them, and with the ever growing obsession with "protecting the children" (from reality) I don't think we'll ever see anything that will for a very long time. So much humour crammed into these show, consistently funny, and it's the only TV that ever managed to educate me as a child without me relising it.
- Cowboy Bebop. Screw Firefly. This show did it twenty years before hands.
Neon Genesis Evangelion gets an honourable mention simply because it took many of the overused anime tropes and stereotypes and completely turned them on their head, deconstructing them in a way that very few animes ever have the foresight to do. Most anime reeks. It's the same old recycled shit over and over again in different shells.

@Orbit
If anyone does, my opinion of them will plummet to new lows, and I, as any other sentient being, do not expect much from people on the internet to begin with.

@Orbit, Guilty as charged.

Fearmonkey yes the songs were great, and they are making a new trilogy of that original series in movies format, for what i did saw on some reviews is well done, next they are going to go with the complete manga story, if theres one thing besides family that i wish the 2012 is bullocks, is in order to see the complete story of berserk animated, that and gantz, and claymore.
Absolute zero, theres a great list of animes you have, lain i didnt like it that much, i prefer texhnolize and haibane both i think are from the same author, but one thing caught my eye 2 "Elfen Lied for comedy value",man which part was comedy, i find it more horror than comedy, it has its fun parts, very few, but the story is dense and depresing in my eyes.
Ireland michael i really like your picks, and they are great i also had a great time with bobsponge and pinky and the Brain, those are really funny cartoons, and not in south park style which is suited for all ages.Posted 11 months ago # -

These are my favorite cartoon showsPosted 11 months ago # -
From the cartoons that are currently running i gotta say i really like Avatar: The Last Airbender. Fantastic animation, lovable character, great design and a nice story.
Archer is imo one of the funniest shows on television. Can never have enough of that humor, though i gotta say it lost some of its steam.
I'd also watch Adventure Time and The Regular Show from time to time. Funny, but sometimes a little bit too childish.
Now to the oldschool cartoons:
I really, really loved the 90's Spider-Man cartoon. I didn't age so well, but it's still fantastic, loved the soundtrack! Ugh, why do so many new cartoons feature such horrible soundtracks and why did the old ones never had any?
I also loved me some me some Batman Beyond. I didn't really enjoy watching the normal Batman show. Terry Whatever his name is was younger and therefore it was easier for me to identify myself with him.
There was of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles as it was called in germany. LOOOOVED the show sooo much. Ugh, i think i'm gonna go and watch some material on Youtube now.
And then there is one of the best cartoons that nobody mentioned and you should all be ashamed that you didn't thought of it:
Gargoyles.
Seriously, there are many cartoons out there that manage to attract some adults, but Gargoyles is one of the best examples how you can attract both small and big without any compromise. Such a god damn great cartoon. And the soundtrack was fantastic too!
Just watch the opening to it again:
Yes, it's german, but i think it actually sounds a lot better than the original version.
Oh and you should definitely check out the german opening for TMHT:
God, 90's cartoons had such great opening.
@absolutezero:
If you haven't already, check out Ergo Proxy. One of the last good animes.
Posted 11 months ago # -
@YoungZero, you're right, we should be ashamed of ourselves for not mentioning Gargoyles. I certainly am.
Not sure how the hell I forgot to put that on the list!
That German intro for Gargoyles was pretty epic, but nobody will ever replace Keith David. It's simply not possible. Sorry. =P
