XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a textbook example of classic gaming reboots, while XCOM 2 was an impressive new take on the concept. Now Firaxis
is giving players another reason to subject your soldiers to tragic losses with a new expansion called War of the Chosen.

First introduced at E3's PC Gaming Show, XCOM 2 has a ton of new content Commanders can get excited for. Most importantly, the expansion introduces a new enemy called the Chosen - boss characters who act as a recurring threat across the campaign. Each Chosen character develops their capabilities alongside your Commander, and can be faced multiple times before the game draws to a close.

Next up are new resistance factions players can interact with. Ranging from alien defecting Skirmishers to the psyonic-powered Templars, these factions can be added to your forces if you impress their leaders, granting you new soldier classes to deploy during missions. War of the Chosen also introduces a new enemy threat with the Lost - mutated survivors of the initial invasion who now travel in hordes through major cities. When attempting missions in these cities, the sound of combat will attract waves of Lost who will attack XCOM and alien forces alike.

War of the Chosen is promising to be the largest XCOM expansion yet, with a greater scope than Enemy Within for the previous XCOM game. That's already exciting enough, but what could make the news better? That it will launch on August 29th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms.

Get back out there, Commander.
