Thief threatens to release stolen Cyberpunk 2077 files if CD Projekt doesn't meet ransom demands

CD Projekt RED is being blackmailed over a set of stolen Cyberpunk 2077 files.

According to The Witcher 3 developer, the proper authorities have been notified, and the firm will not comply with the thief's ransom demands.

The perpetrator said if the demands were not met, the internal files would be posted online.

While it's possible the authorities being notified will cause the ne'er-do-well to think twice, CDP is being realistic.

The company issued a statement ahead of the leak, informing its fans and the public what they will see are "old and largely unrepresentative" of the current state of Cyberpunk 2077 development.

You can read the full statement tweeted by CDP below.

Last we heard, a sizeable team was working on Cyberpunk 2077, and has expanded to the point more staffers are working on it than The Witcher 3 had during the best of times.

This is due to the studio's previous statement that Cyberpunk 2077 will need to be better, bigger, and more revolutionary than previously planned due to The Witcher 3 setting the bar so high.

CDP has said repeatedly it will provide more information on the game when the time is right. This means there is no expected release window for the game at present.
