Disney has severed ties with PewDiePie after the YouTube star released a series of videos containing Nazi imagery and anti-semitic content.

In one video released on January 11, the YouTuber, real name Felix Kjellberg, paid people via Fiverr to hold up a sign reading "death to all Jews".

"Although Felix has created a following by being provocative and irreverent, he clearly went too far in this case and the resulting videos are inappropriate," said Maker Studios, the YouTuber agency owned by Disney.

"Though this was not my intention, I understand that these jokes were ultimately offensive," said PewDiePie, according to the BBC, claiming that he was "trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online."

"I want to make one thing clear: I am in no way supporting any kind of hateful attitudes," he detailed in a short blog post.

Last year it's estimated PewDiePie earned $15 million through YouTube, where he boasts over 53 million subscribers.
