Here's why existing owners of Bulletstorm won't be getting Full Clip Edition for free
A free upgrade offer may have been expected for Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, but sadly it won't be the case.
Revealed at The Game Awards 2016 last week, Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is a remaster of the original People Can Fly/Epic Games project. It's also the first game to be published by Gearbox, after the studio acquired the IP recently.
The remaster will release on PC and consoles, which lead some to believe Gearbox would be offering an upgrade path for the former, or even better, give it away for free to owners of the original. Unfortunately, this isn't happening, and Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford took to Twitter to explain why.
"Not possible - completely different publisher, era, platform (they were Games for Windows only), product/sku, etc," Pitchford told one fan on Twitter.
Another fan gave the example of Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, a remaster of a THQ game, published by THQ Nordic that was given away for free to existing owners on Steam. Pitchford responded by saying, "Different case. New owners of Darksiders captured all past/present/future rights. We're just publishing someone else's game."
Although things are different in the case of Bulletstorm, it's still disappointing to hear. It also seems owners of the original may not get a discount offer for upgrading, as this tweet indicates.
Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition is out April 7 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
