Pokémon Sun and Moon are out next month and people are pretty psyched about it if the pre-orders are anything to go by.

Following Nintendo's financial briefing last week it turns out that Pokémon Sun and Moon are doing very well indeed, and they're not even out yet.

Nintendo of America tweeted that, "Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are already breaking records!"

It turns out that Pokémon Sun is the most pre-ordered game in Nintendo's history while Pokémon Moon is the most downloaded 3DS demo for the company.

The success of Pokémon Go may go some way to explaining the peaked interest in the franchise, and talking to Bloomberg last week, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima commented on the relationship between increased visibility of their titles on smartphones and the impact that's had.

"In terms of expectations [for Super Mario Run], we all saw what happened when we delivered Pokemon Go. And honestly I was quite surprised by it myself. There's no doubt that more people are using smartphones to play games. And as this time we're using Mario, that's a very important intellectual property for us. And that's what Miyamoto's team is working on now: making sure it spreads out just as quickly as Pokemon Go."

Addressing Nintendo's philosophy towards Smartphone games, he continues, "Our main business is the hardware/software business. In addition, our smartphone business has helped sell a lot of our existing packages.

"And it has really proved our original thesis: by releasing our software on the smartphone, it positively impacts our existing hardware and software business. And that's precisely the synergy effect we were expecting. And as that has been proven correct, we have more confidence."
