The Gears of War 4 Windows 10 pre-load is still broken for some, but there are a few workarounds
The Windows Store is giving many of those trying to download Gears of War 4 a pretty hard time.
It doesn't take long to discover that a lot of people are running into all sorts of issues trying to pre-load Gears of War 4 on Windows 10 through the store.
Even after installing the most recent Windows 10 update Microsoft recommended downloading before pre-loading the game, many have seen more than one problem with their downloads. The download reset bug appears to still be there, though it's not as widespread as it was prior to the launch of Forza Horizon 3.
The two other major issues that popped up recently is one that prevents downloads from starting, and another that prevents them from finishing. A number of users on the Gears of War forums have posted some of the solutions that seem to have worked for them.
The first, involves resetting the Windows cache by opening the start menu, typing "run" and entering "wsreset".
This should allows those who ran into the "Try Again Later - Something Happened On Our End" error to be able to start the download once the cache reset is done.
Another player suggested not automatically starting the download after buying/redeeming the code.
Instead, the player found success by launching the Xbox App, looking for the Gears of War 4 entry (not Ultimate Edition for those who have it), and clicking 'Show in Store'. This will take you to the Windows Store and you'll be able to download it from there.
One last thing you could try if the Store isn't allowing you to start the download for your is to click your avatar icon in the store, navigate to 'My Library' and download the game from there. The same user suggested restarting the Store when this doesn't work, but not looking up the game through the search function.
Gears of War 4's download is just over 73GB, so it's best to go in ready. The game is out October 11 on Xbox One and Windows 10.
