Blizzard is making a fantastic statue for Chris Metzen's retirement gift
How does one acknowledge Chris Metzen - a driving force behind three hugely significant gaming franchises - on his retirement from Blizzard? Apparently a few of Blizzard's designers decided the best choice was creating an absolutely wonderful statue he could take home with him.
Senior Blizzard visual effects artist Terrie Denman unveiled the design on Twitter yesterday. While the statue itself isn't finished, the print shows Metzen holding Baby Winston's hand while standing over logos of major Blizzard titles he's worked on. The finished statue will be delivered to Metzen at a later date.
"Thank you all for letting me be a special part of your community," Metzen wrote on the Overwatch Community Forums when announcing his retirement. "For letting me belong with you. We’ve shared countless adventures together and I’ve always been overwhelmed and humbled by your passion for our games as well your commitment to each other. Thank you for all the BlizzCon hugs, smiles, handshakes, and stories over the years. You will never know how much you’ve all touched my heart and inspired me to give my all into this craft."
Metzen announced his retirement earlier this week after 23 years of working at Blizzard.
