The Rainbox Six: Siege Starter Edition returns as a Uplay exclusive
Ubisoft has re-released the Starter Edition of the latest Rainbow Six, but you'll need to go through the Uplay shop to access it.
This version of the game was briefly made available last June, but was pulled on June 19, having presumably achieved its objective of boosting the player base.
Now the sale's back on, but you can't buy the Starter Edition through Steam; you'll need to access the Uplay Store.
The Starter Edition is selling for $15/£12/€15/$20AU, and includes the vast majority of the full game. The main difference is that you do not have full access to all the 'Operators', Siege's playable classes, at the start. You'll be randomly given two to begin with, along with enough virtual currency to unlock two more.
This leaves sixteen operators locked, who can be earned either by earning more currency to spend on them. Naturally, you can buy this currency to speed up the process; if you do that, you'll end up spending around the same amount of money as it would have cost to buy the full game, but you have the option of grinding away instead.
The Starter Edition is also compatible with the Season Pass, if you really take to the game. Just be aware that this is a limited time offer, and will disappear on October 11 (until Ubisoft decides to bring it out a third time down the track, presumably).
