Niantic is unbanning some Pokemon Go accounts

Some Pokemon Go accounts that received bans in the recent waves, have been reinstated by the developer.

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has announced that some user accounts that were recently banned for using tracking services, will be unbanned.

Niantic said these accounts are a small subset of the banned accounts, and added that its stance on third-party add-on services has not changed. The use of what the developer called "add-on services" may get your account banned in the future.

The developer revealed at the time that scraping and bot services were stressing the game's server infrastructure much more than any number of active users could, leading to a worse experience for everyone. The studio has now made changes to server infrastructure to allow for reinstating banned accounts.

"Because of this we have had to ban some accounts associated with using these add-on map tools, leading to confusion by some users about why they were banned," reads the update.

Scrape accounts, bots and similar accounts whose sole purpose is to gather user data will remain banned, however, and the same goes for tools that allow players to remotely capture Pokemon or battle at Gyms.

"Our main priority is to provide a fair, fun, and legitimate experience for all players, so, aggressive banning will continue to occur for players who engage in these kinds of activities," noted Niantic.
