Reports of fps drops, crashes and constant hitching pour in for No Man's Sky on PC

PC users seem to be having some issues with No Man's Sky, which was released at 1pm ET.

When logging into Steam to check out the game's page, we noticed plenty of red in the user reviews section.

Many users are reporting the game crashes once past the loading screen or when alt-tabbing, it suffers from severe stuttering, and others report performance issues when trying to lock the game at 30fps. Field of view issues are being experienced, and it seems no matter which setting is used, the game is failing to run smoothly.

The same is being said by users over on GOG.com, where one user said he was experiencing "horrible pop-in, constant hitching, and terribly inconsistent frame-rate" running the game with a GeForce GTX 980ti.

Turning anti-aliasing on lowered the game to 20fps and key re-bindings weren't being saved.

Hello Games founder Sean Murray took to Twitter to offer suggestions on getting the game to run better, the first being to update to the latest AMD and Nvidia drivers. Also, OpenGL 4.5 is required to play No Man's Sky and players need to make sure the GFX card is "above the min specs." He also said one of the biggest issues being reported was players without Visual C++ Redist 2010.

Murray also said the first PC patch has been released already, and to update and restart the game if needed. The same information above was posted on the game's official website, along with information on how to submit a ticket.

Earlier today it was reported a new QA team had been brought on board to work with Sony’s QA team to address critical PS4 issues, which like the PC version, include crashing. The patch for the console version will be released "in the near future," the studio said.

When the servers for the game went online for PC, Murray said a "frankly insane amount of people" tried to run No Man's Sky within 15 minutes of release.

"99% appear to be up and running on our servers," he tweeted. "We'll begin trying to resolve asap for those who are having issues."

As of press time, there are 203,416 players in-game on Steam, down from a peak of 212,620 when the game released a few hours ago.

Sounds like those who are still issues with the game, even after updating drivers and downloading the patch, may want to go play something else until another fix is deployed.
