Pokemon Go spawns Chinese clone, also topping the charts
Pokemon Go is big everywhere in the world, including countries where the game has yet to officially release.
City Spirit Go is currently topping the Chinese free iOS App Store charts. As you may have guessed, the game is a Pokemon Go clone.
According to Tech in Asia, City Spirit Go does not copy Pokemon Go's augmented reality part, but it does include the rest of its mechanics. The location-based gameplay is there, but the AR map is replaced with a cartoony one.
You still have to run around to catch the monsters, and it's even been getting good reviews on the store. Interestingly, City Spirit Go was released March 24, shortly after the Japanese version of Pokemon Go entered beta, and became available to a few players outside the company.
The site adds that there's another knock-off called Go Catch ‘Em All, and although it has plenty of bad reviews, it's currently the second most popular free iOS app in China.
Pokemon Go will no doubt spawn many more clones, but at least it's getting released in more and more countries.
