With Sony's PlayStation Neo and Microsoft's Project Scorpio underway, many are naturally asking if we're seeing the end of traditional console generations. The answer from Sony is an emphatic no - in fact, the PlayStation 4 life cycle shouldn't change at all.

Speaking to Gamewelt.TV, Sony Interactive Entertainment's president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida claimed the "new high-end PS4 is still PS4, so the life cycle is not going to be shorter."

That being said, Yoshida is still following Sony's policy of not revealing Neo details until an official announcement is ready. He does, however, claim to have been pleasantly surprised at Microsoft's Project Scorpio announcement. "I was not expecting them to talk about [Project Scorpio,]" he continued. "It's very very super interesting what they are doing."

During E3, Sony's Jim Ryan claimed the company wished to focus on games until the hardware itself was ready. "In terms of the very public articulation of it on a stage, we really want to be ready and be able to demonstrate it properly and all of that. So we will do that when we are ready, when we can show it properly."
