Overwatch: Competitive Play coming in big update "sometime in June", story videos to continue
Overwatch developer Blizzard hosted a live Q&A on Facebook earlier. During the session, game director Jeff Kaplan answered select community questions and revealed some insight into what will follow in the coming months.
On the game's competitive play, Kaplan said it's the thing the team is currently focused on, making a lot of changes as they play it internally. Competitive Play was recently cut from the beta as well as the final version.
The studio promised to release the mode once all work has been finished, and although Kaplan couldn't give an exact date, he said it will probably be available sometime mid to late June, in the game's first big update.
The new Competitive Play will feature seasons longer than one month, which is something many fans requested. Each season will be around three months, or more specifically, two-and-half months of play with a week or two in between seasons.
The format of seasons is also being looked at, and Kaplan hopes the frequency of Sudden Death happening will be different than what players have seen before.
Elsewhere in the video, Kaplan confirmed that lore and story shorts will continue post-launch, and that Roadhog will be among next season's characters. Blizzard will also expand the story beyond these videos in things like graphics novels, as well as in-game.

Overwatch is out tomorrow on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
