When Tomb Raider 3 released in 1998, Lara Croft was the hottest name in games. Publisher Core went all out with a swank launch event at London's Natural History Museum, even going to far as to commission a live action short to promote the third entry and trilogy to date.
This film was shown just once, projected for the crowd outside, before vanishing; if you weren't there, you missed out. It's one of those lost artefacts hardcore fans have poured enormous effort into tracking down - and it's turned up at last.
Producer Janey de Nordwall recently found the original tape and passed it on to Square Enix. The publisher has made it publicly available for the very first time, as part of its year long 20th anniversary celebration of the franchise.

Horrors of the 90's aside, this is a pretty decent effort, don't you think? Imagine how much it must have cost, and all for one single screening. Then again, Tomb Raider was simply enormous at the time - one of the true blockbusters of the industry, turning up in magazines and video clips and generally going mainstream.
Poor old Lara's never really recaptured that success, although the most recent reboot was pretty magical. I'm still waiting for Rose of the Tomb Raider on PS4, Squeenix. Whenever you're ready.
