Two-factor authentication coming to PlayStation Network
Sony will be adding a two-factor authentication security feature to PlayStation Network.
Many who downloaded yesterday's PS3 firmware update 4.80 noticed if they entered their incorrect information, a two-factor authentication message popped up.
PS3 user Tuomas Tonteri posted an image of the message on Twitter.
Sony confirmed to Polygon the feature was in the works, but wouldn't provide details on when users could expect it.
"In order to further safeguard our users and their accounts, we are preparing to offer a 2-step verification feature," the spokesperson said. "More details will be shared at a later date."
Two-step verification is already available for those with a Microsoft or Xbox Live account. Last year, Steam further enhanced its own two-factor authentication feature, Steam Guard, by adding a mobile authenticator.
PlayStation users have been asking for two-step verification since PSN was hacked five years ago, causing the service to be down for 23 days.
