Instead, the game's story takes place after the events of the new Ghostbusters film, and focuses on a rookie foursome.
While the current Ghostbusters are off touring the globe wrestling with more famous poltergeists, the rookies are responsible for keeping New York City safe. Of course, things won't go as planned. They never do.
The third-person action game with RPG elements will feature local co-op with up to four players. Gear and abilities can be leveled up by completing objectives, defeating specters, and finding hidden collectibles. Each of the four heroes have specific personality traits and play-style.
Ghostbusters was revealed to be in the works back in January, and it is expected to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 12.
A mobile game, Ghostbusters: Slime City, will be released in July for iOS and Android. It features asynchronous co-op, leaderboards, the ability to craft proton packs, upgrade the Ghostbuster headquarters, and more.
