Microsoft "committed" to bringing biggest Xbox franchises to W10 - but not every game
Microsoft is "committed" to bringing Xbox One games to Windows 10 PC, but don't expect everything released on the console to be made available to the mouse and keyboard crowd.
While that's rather obvious intro, it's worth noting in case there was any confusion on the matter, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer said as much recently.
"Microsoft is committed bringing [the] biggest franchises from Xbox to Windows," he told IGN during a video podcast. "We've said that. It doesn't mean, necessarily, that every game ends up on both platforms, because there could be some differences in how things play."
Spencer said his team wants the TV gaming experience to be the best it can be with Xbox One, but there is a "fundamental difference" between playing on the big screen and on PC and some like playing on both.
"We also look at Windows as something critical to the success of Microsoft, and the gaming group looks ta making positive impact on Windows 10 as a gaming platform.," he said.
He said financially, the Xbox One may be the most cost effective option due to various hardware factors, from a "performance/price standpoint console is a great value," but people also "love gaming rigs" and the team is committed to bringing the W10 customer the Xbox experience by offering various features. These include Xbox Live and some of the company's "biggest franchises."
"We are committed to bringing our biggest franchises to Xbox and Windows, we've said that, but it doesn't nessisarily mean every game ends up on both platforms, " said Spencer. "[This is] because there can be some differences in how things play."
He went on to say offering these franchises on both platforms means more games to play, especially for console users, due to more developers creating experiences for as the ecosystem expands.
"We like to focus on what people can play, not what they can't play because I don't think that's a great way of growing our industry," he said. "I want to make sure that when people play on our platforms they have the broadest set of game to go play, but we are also more committed to our console than we have ever been."
Spencer talks more about Windows 10 and Xbox One gaming in the video, and you can listen to him for yourself starting at the 19 minute mark.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is now available for Windows 10 users, a free-to-play version of Forza 6 is on the way, and Quantum Break releases on April 5.
