PS VR has "strongest title count," says GameStop CEO
GameStop will happily sell all virtual reality headsets and accessories, but CEO Paul Raines believes Sony has a leg up when it comes to content.
GameStop wants be ready for the impending launch of virtual reality. Speaking at the ICR Conference 2016 (via Gamespot), CEO Paul Raines said VR is a "big part" of the retailer's future, and that PlayStation VR has the strongest list of titles so far.
"The more important thing will be the title count at launch. I think that's going to be big. And from what we can see at this point, Sony seems to have the strongest title count."
Accessories and other VR-related items are also expected to be go big once VR is out, according to Raines. "I certainly think [GameStop] is going to be a store you're going to want to buy your virtual reality products at.
"And it will come with a variety of accessories, by the way--there'll be goggles and gloves and motion [controllers] and all kinds of things. So it's very promising in a lot of ways."
A market share similar to what the retailer had with the recent console launch could happen again with VR, which the CEO said it's something they're looking to replicate. Raines added that all three headsets look great, and despite the company's optimistic outlook, it won't "get caught in the trap" of factoring in VR sales just yet.
So far, only the Oculus Rift has had its a launch date and price revealed. Valve's VR will be available for pre-orders in February, and Sony has been strangely quiet about pricing plans.
