Blizzard has no "definitive" add-on content plans for Overwatch

Overwatch won't launch with a hero store, and Blizzard hasn't even decided whether to sell characters at all.

This weekend at BlizzCon 2015, Blizzard announced that Overwatch is not free-to-play, but instead launching traditionally as a boxed product with an upfront ticket price and a full roster of heroes. Although a shiny special edition is available, there are no extra DLC characters or maps available as bonuses.

This is such a rare occurrence in 2015 that it has been met with scoffs of disbelief, and persistent questions about when, what and how DLC will be sold.

Speaking to PC Gamer, game director Jeff Kaplan said the developer has not been dodging these questions; it can't answer because it "absolutely" doesn't have "a definitive answer and a definitive plan", and not because the team "just don't want to tell you what it is yet".

"We're not sure if and when and how we're going to add new heroes to the game at all," he said.

"I think there was a misconception that went around early on there would be a 'hero store' with other heroes for sale at launch also, and that just couldn't be further from the truth."

"There was also a misconception that we would be selling maps, and we've never had any intention of selling maps."

It looks like cosmetic stuff will be available, though, since you can score a skin if you pre-order.

Kaplan's comments are an extract from a longer video interview ranging across a range of topics pertaining to Blizzard's new hero shooter; hit the source link above for the full context.
