Most users won't upgrade their PCs for VR, and most PCs are in bedrooms, says Valve survey

According to a recent Valve survey, most VR enthusiasts expect to use the tech in their bedrooms on their current PCs.

Valve has revealed the results of a survey it recently conducted to help VR developers know their audience. The survey was done through the Steam VR forums with over 2,000 participants.

42 percent of respondents said they wouldn't upgrade their current PCs for VR, with around 20 percent saying they would build a new PC to work with the tech.

The most interesting aspects of the survey concern the location of these PCs. Valve's Vive headset will work in tandem with its Lighthouse technology, which creates a virtual space and tracks the user within. Suddenly details like floor space and ceiling height matter, which is why Valve included them.

Over 42 percent of users said they keep their PCs in their bedrooms, with over 69 saying they don't intend on moving them somewhere else. All of this data is intended to help developers better build their games around those limitations, while also setting certain expectations for them when it comes to early adopters of VR.

These numbers could be a little different if the survey was done through another channel, but as we've seen with the launch of Xbox One, the core audience and early adopters' word of mouth matters a lot.
