Trine 3 team: "Now that everybody hates us, our plans are on hold"

Trine 3 developer Frozenbyte has issued a video statement in response to negative feedback.

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power launched last week and reception has been mixed.

There are plenty of people who enjoyed the game, but some have called it out for a shorter length of about six hours, abbreviated story, cliffhanger ending and switch to 3D.

As ever, those who are angry and disappointed raise their voices the loudest, and Frozenbyte is getting the message loud and clear. The video below is the team's response, and it's painful to watch - the developers seem very nervous and shaken as they apologise for not communicating the game's design more clearly, explain their intentions, and wonder if they missed the mark.

Open and honest communication like this may help defuse the anger, but it's painful to see a company having to ask angry players not to harass staff. Don't do that, cats.

Watching an indie question its future like this is a strong reminder of the fragility of the games business - games cost ridiculous amount of money to make, and a misstep can spell doom for smaller teams. No wonder sequels tend to be so conservative.

Now that you know Trine 3 is short, one instalment of a longer story, ends abruptly and takes place in a 3D world, you can grab it on PC if you still fancy it.
