Fallout 4 Collector's Edition Pip-Boy won't work with iPhone 6+, other large devices

Fallout fans hoping for the most authentic Pip-Boy experience may be in for a disappointment.

The Fallout 4 Collector's Edition includes a Pip-Boy smartphone mount so you can access the in-game menu via a second screen on your wrist - just like real Vault Dwellers.

Unfortunately, it's only going to work with standard-sized devices. According to the Bethesda Blog, the Pip-Boy shell comes with foam inserts allowing it to house iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5s, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5 and Samsung Galaxy 4, as well as some other devices thanks to a customisable insert.

"As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device," Bethesda said.

There may be some good news in this; the Collector's Edition sold out pretty rapidly in many territories, with auction site prices climbing rapidly. Those of you who missed out may get a second chance if a few iPhone 6 owners cancel their pre-orders.

Not sure what all the fuss is about? Take a look at the "real life" Pip-Boy included in the Fallout 4 Collector's Edition.

Fallout 4 arrives on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.
