Star Wars Battlefront: maps change depending on which side is winning
Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE is using the maps and in-game environments to tell players who's winning and who's losing.
You may not have noticed it, but in the multiplayer demo and co-op Missions demo, the environment was constantly changing. Because of the way the videos were cut, it wasn't always apparent what caused it.
In an interview with IGN, DICE general manager Patrick Bach explained the concept of "Battle Beyond," which changes the map and some of the events, depending which side is winning or losing.
For instance, a Star Destroyer would go down in flames when Rebels are winning. These will be different for each map too, according to IGN.
"It's what you usually do in a UI, you make it bluntly obvious. It's slowly hinting at who's winning, and I think it's a brilliant concept to give you the information and emotion you need to understand or change your plans... You don't need a gauge blinking. It's part of the world," says Bach.
Star Wars Battlefront is out November 17 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
