Ubisoft confirms that Michel Ancel isn't working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 [UPDATE]
A report earlier today stating that Michel Ancel was no longer working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 seemed to suggest he was no longer working in prominent capacity at Ubisoft. A spokesperson for the company reached out to VG247 to state that is not the case at all.
Update
According to a Ubisoft spokesperson, Ancel is still working on "several" projects at the company, but the company didn't offer comment on whether Ancel was still attached to Beyond Good and Evil 2.
“What was reported by IGN is untrue," said Ubisoft. "Michel is still leading creative development of several exciting projects being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier.”
The original story is as follows.
Original Story
Tony Key, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Ubisoft, confirms Michel Ancel is not currently working on Beyond Good and Evil 2.
In an interview with IGN that has since been taken down, Key said that Ancel was not working on the sequel. "So he's a busy guy right now. But no.... He's got things going on and I can't really comment on his bandwidth. I know he's very busy. We still work with him on things."
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was confirmed last year for this new generation of consoles, but since then Ancel has started up his own studio and is already working on a new game called WiLD, although he still remains at Ubisoft for now.
Commenting on the progress of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Key remarked "There's just nothing to talk about right now. We don't really have anything to say. We appreciate how much people really want it."
Is Michel Ancel leaving the project or is he just busy with his studio? Will we ever get our hands on this game? Let us know what you think about all of this in the comments.
