New Need for Speed is a "full reboot" coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One
The new Need for Speed has been announced via a teaser trailer by EA, with a full reveal promised for next month.
In the works at Ghost Games, the game is a "full reboot" containing "deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative." The team is developing the racer using the same version of the Frostbite Engine as Star Wars: Battlefront.
“Need for Speed is one of the most iconic names in gaming, and we're returning it to greatness in this reboot,” said Marcus Nilsson, executive producer at Ghost Games in the press release.
“Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we’ve always wanted to. We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed.”
EA's Speedhunters community is lending a hand in research and development to ensure "real-world authenticity".
Need for Speed will launch worldwide in fall 2015 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
A full reveal will take place on June 15 during EA's E3 2015 press conference.
