Mother 4 gets first gameplay trailer
Mother 4 is probably never going to happen, but this unofficial fan version looks pretty special.
The Mother series is probably best known to western gamers as Earthbound, which is called Mother 2 in Japan. Neither of the other two games have been officially localised, and thanks to its (numerically!) limited impact in the west, it's only thanks to a recent Virtual Console launch and Ness's appearance in Super Smash Bros that it's gaining recognition again.
Mother creator Shigesato Otoi has said Mother 4 would be "impossible", but a group of determined fans went ahead and made an unofficial sequel to the series anyway.
The team has now released the first proper trailer for the fanmade title. It is described thusly:
"Mother 4 follows the journey of three kids and the leader of a biker gang. With dark rumours of 'Modern Men' running wild, these unassuming heroes set out to uncover the truth, no matter how dangerous. From bustling urban streets to secret volcano bases, all kinds of oddball thugs and impossible monsters stand in their way, but everything should be okay if they don't forget to write home."
Mother 4 will release for free on Linux, mac and PC in northern summer. Follow the project's progress on its website.
