Nintendo's Mii app allows users to load their avatar onto social media

An app coming to smartphones from Nintendo will allow users to load their Mii avatar onto social media channels to use as an icon.

Noting that he is still "wary" of the mobile category, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during an interview with Nikkei, but as he previously stated, he wants to use mobile to promote Nintendo products.

"In the past, I have opposed making smartphone and tablet versions of Nintendo titles," Iwata said. "Prices for content aimed at smartphones and tablets are falling quickly. I am still wary of the category.

"We intend to develop products that will allow customers to identify with Nintendo products and make people pay attention to Nintendo games."

Iwata said it "would be fun for players" to use their Mii characters as icons on social media, and that the app will finally be announced "around the time" Nintendo's full-year results are released.

Nintendo's Mii app was announced in 2013 for a 2014 release, but was pushed into 2015 as it needs improvements and polishing.
