Killer Instinct's next character is Omen
Killer Instinct: Season 2 will include a heretofore unexpected bonus character named Omen, whose moves should put you in mind of Jago.
Killer Instinct: Season 2 has been gradually adding characters to the free-to-play Xbox One fighter's roster since October, delivering TJ, Maya, Kan-Ra and Riptor.
The full Season 2 roster will eventually include eight characters, but the January release, Omen, isn't one of those. According to a post on the Killer Instinct forums, Omen brings the season total to nine at no extra cost to those who buy in via either the Combo Breaker Pack (all characters from Season 2) or Ultra Edition (includes both seasons). In fact, Omen will not be sold individually, so buying a DLC bundle is your only way to grab him.
Omen, otherwise known as the Herald of Gargos, is sort of a new character and sort of an existing one - you may remember him from his time possessing Jago, turning him into Shadow Jago.
Omen's moveset is a combination of Jago, Shadow Jago and all-new moves. Developer Iron Galaxy provided a few examples, but will give more details later:
- Three shadow stocks
- Shadow-powered ability to cancel any action, turn into shadow, and move a short distance in any direction
- Multi-hitting close-range kick special
- Powerful projectile zoning with some radical projectile options
- A special move that burns all three stocks
- Aerial movement options
- Slide
According to Iron Galaxy, Omen is one of the best zoning characters in Killer Instinct - if you can master his abilities.
"Learning to recognize the advantages his zoning tools provide and work with them is going to be challenging, but rewarding when used correctly. He can also completely change the psychological pace of the game with one very risky option," the developer said.
No trailer or character art has been released yet; the grainy teaser image above will have to do you.
Thanks, Polygon.
