This is the easiest way to pretend to be an octopus pretending to be a human
This is awesome: with this facial animation software, you can puppeteer Octodad using your webcam.
Facerig is a crowdfunded facial animation suite that uses a webcam to capture your performance and directly animate a character in real-time, in programs like Skype and Twitch or for making movies. According to the software's website, this will one day be available for use with any character, and possibly even in-game.
The developers put out a call for developers to license characters for use with the tech, and Young Horses were among the first to step up, offering Octodad: Dadliest Catch's protagonist. The model supplied uses the same polygon count as the in-game model.
Octodad is a particularly apt choice because the gameplay involves puppeteering the character, which would be weird and awkward were it not for the fact that he is an octopus pretending to be a human, so your clumsy wobbling about seems perfectly natural.
Facerig will be available for purchase through Steam Early Access in August 2014.
Thanks, Polygon.
