Ubisoft holding back finished Wii U game until console sales improve

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the company is sitting on a finished Wii U title until sales of Nintendo's console improve.

It follows confirmation last May that ZombiU 2 prototyping had begun. We're not saying this is the mystery game, but it seemed for a while that Ubisoft was getting properly invested in Wii U, and then it took a step back once sales cooled.

Speaking with Polygon, Guillemot said, "We did adapt the number of products to the level of quantities that the machine did. So we will have Just Dance again which is well suited for the machine. We'll have Watch Dogs. We have another couple of products that we are waiting to launch, specifically we have one game that we wait for the machine to be more mass market to launch."

How many Wii U consoles would need to be sold for Ubisoft to release the title? Guillemot added, "We don't have a number. We need the sales to increase so it becomes more and more mass market then we will have the volume that will justify massive marketing and TV marketing."

"Nintendo is really coming up with fantastic games," he went on "They could, with the right price and very good games, help the machine start selling."

And if Wii U doesn't secure the desired sales, Guillemot said the game, "could never come out. It could come out on another format... "

There you have it. What do you make of that one?
