DC Universe Online confirmed for PlayStation 4 launch day

Sony Online Entertainment's free to play MMO DC Universe Online will be coming to the PlayStation 4 on its American launch day, November 15. The PlayStation 4 version of the game will feature a "game-wide graphical update" and a "remastered and polished leveling experience". Look forward to that if you fancy something free to play for your fancy new console next month.

The game's producer Larry Liberty, explained to US Gamer the difficulties of developing an MMO across three systems of varying power and how the team intended to balance the push for new features with the fact most of the game's player base is on the PlayStation 3.

"I think we've got some ideas in mind. We have to get very creative technically on the PS3 to allow us to continue to add features. As long as we think we can do that for a few years, I think we'll be okay. Eventually, we'll have predominantly PS4 players, as the PS3 will sunset itself. Once that does happen we can pretty much stop worrying about memory.

"We basically have about 226 MBs available in system memory on PS3. Compare that to a modern PC and you can understand how hard it is to keep adding new things. Every time we add a new power, or any big feature, we've got to figure out a way to optimize what we got and squeeze it in. The plan is to continue to figure out ways to keep getting better and cramming it on the PS3. The PS4 is going to perform better, and be a more stable and smooth experience."
