BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea DLC gets a mysterious Rapture trailer, gameplay details inside

BioShock: Infinite's 'Burial at Sea' DLC has received a new trailer that focuses on investigations into the underwater city of Rapture. Watch it here.

The DLC takes place in an alternate Rapture, with Booker and Elizabeth meeting for the first time, right before all hell breaks loose.

Booker is still a detective in this world, and is approached by Elizabeth to help track down a missing girl called Sally. She's just one of many missing girls across the city, and I'm guessing it's something to do with the Little Sister program.

Previews online now, suggest that the world is more alive than in the original BioShock, with NPCs going about their lives. Some old landmarks will return, while others can be heard mentioned in conversation. It gives an insight into what life was like before the Splicer uprising.

Vigors have been replaced by Plasmids, Elizabeth handles in the same way she did in Infinite, and surprisingly even the Sky Hook has returned. It's now called the Air Grabber, and sits along side a range of new weapons and tools Booker will use in his quest. There's even a new Vigor/Plasmid called Old Man Winter that allows players to freeze bodies of water and shoot ice at enemies.

Resources like Eve will return but will be much more scarce, upping the difficulty somewhat. 1999 Mode also makes a come-back.

Speaking with IGN, lead level designer Andres Gonzales said, “We rebalanced everything to be more toward resource management and stealth, which changes the way that the encounters play. It’s more player-initiated. You hear enemies off in the distance. Because these are BioShock Infinite systems, tweaked to create the experience of the original BioShock, it’s sort of a hybrid of the two. We had to create the environments to support that gameplay.”

Ken Levine added, “We substantially changed the awareness system from Infinite to this, so it felt more like BioShock 1. It took a fair amount of work. There were things about the AI that just worked so differently. We just bit the bullet and said, ‘if we want it to feel like BioShock 1 we’re going to have to make all these things happen.’ If it didn’t feel like Rapture, it would just feel like a coat of paint. We knew we didn’t want to do that.”

The DLC will cost $14.99 at launch and is yet to be given a solid release date, but it will be out sometime this holiday.
