Next-gen upgrades may not allow save importing

Three major publishers have warned that taking advantage of next-gen upgrade options, which allow you to grab a PS4 or Xbox One version of a current-gen game at minimal cost, may not mean you can bring your single-player progress with you.

Speaking with Kotaku, EA and Activision representatives confirmed that single-player save progress won't be carried over if you upgrade games like Call of Duty: Ghosts from one platform to another.

Ubisoft also confirmed that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag's campaign progress won't transfer, although it didn't have comment on Watch Dogs.

Multiplayer progress will be carried over for some titles, notably Call of Duty: Ghosts. Lots of FIFA 14 progress will carry over.

Platform holders, publishers and retailers have presented several upgrade options for those happy to fork out $10 to get a second copy of the game for a new console. Here's Sony's, Microsoft's, and Call of Duty: Ghosts. Amazon's offering the scheme for Need for Speed: Rivals, and FIFA 14 upgrades are available through multiple sources. Battlefield 4 is going to ship with an upgrade code in-box.

Thanks, CVG.
