Final Fantasy 6 gets the live-action fan film treatment, group seeks Square's blessing
Final Fantasy 6 is next in the queue of live-action fan film adaptations. It'll probably never get further than the clip here, but it's still nice to dream innit?
Kotaku spotted this one, and said that the project will probably never expand further, seeing as a recent Final Fantasy 7 fan film was nuked by Square Enix.
That said, the clip's creators Bad Pixel hope to secure the rights to make the film from Square. Team member Ben Pohl said that his group won't make the same mistake as the Final Fantasy 7 lot and go to Kickstarter before receiving Square's blessing.
Speaking with the site, Pohl said, “Getting their blessing is a Hail Mary, I know. But I’m too ambitious not to try. And besides, making the trailer was an amazing experience.”
When asked what would happen if Pohl failed to get the rights, he replied, “That’s a great question. I’m honestly not sure. We could continue to go it alone and invest in it ourselves, like we did the trailer. But we finished that yesterday and I’m still decompressing from that experience.
"If there was a way to do it both cheap and good, then maybe. Ideally, the trailer would show Square Enix that we can be trusted to make a quality, high-concept production. That the high-end visuals that FFVI deserves are within our reach. If all that ever happens is this trailer, then I’m happy. This was an absolute hoot to make. From the amazing costume designer, to the professional actors, I had the time of my life.”
