Bethesda Game Studios reveal has no set timeframe
Bethesda has not set a deadline for when it will unveil the next project from Todd Howard's core development team at Bethesda Game Studios.
Speaking to Polygon, Zenimax and Besthesda Softworks vice president Pete Hines said you shouldn't hold your breath to find out what the new game is - or make assumptions about it being Fallout 4.
"What people need to understand - whether it is Bethesda Game Studios, Arkane or anybody - expecting information like that in any short period of time after they moved off one project to the other is really unrealistic," he said.
"We are not into annual franchises - just trying to spin out a version of our game year, after year, after year. Like, we have never done that, I don't see that it is something that we are doing anytime soon. But that doesn't mean that we are going to take our time and wait six or seven years in between a game that a studio puts out.
"But these are big games that take a long time and folks need to understand that we have a very certain way of going about things."
Hines said Zenimax doesn't set deadlines for reveals, so he has no idea when Howard and his team might be ready to reveal what they're working on.
"Todd will let me know when he is ready and I will tell everyone else what he is up to," he said.
Earlier this year, Bethesda promised to start making "more noise" as a publisher shortly before announcing that Bethesda Game Studios had signed off on Skyrim, which naturally led to much excitement and speculation that we'd see the next game from Howard's team.
It was far too early for that, of course - instead, we got first details on The Evil Within and at E3 we learned that The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to consoles. That didn't stop the rumours, though.
Although it's only been in the works for a couple of months at most, Hines said recently that early progress on the new BGS game is looking "awesome".
