Minecraft Xbox One is a new product: no save transfer from 360, says Microsoft
Minecraft Xbox One is to be considered a new product when compared to its PC and Xbox 360 counterparts, according to Microsoft's Phil Spencer. The exec has promised bigger worlds, the ability to take your creations to multiple devices, but he has said the leap may rule out save transfer between Xbox 360 and Xbox One versions of the game. Bad times brah.
Speaking with OXM, Spencer was asked if save transfer between Xbox 360 and Xbox One was a possibility He replied, "No, it's a new product on Xbox One. We're actually updating it in pretty significant ways for the new platform. Bigger worlds, which don't translate between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One."
Spencer may have spoken in error however, as 4J Studios has confirmed it is in talks with Mojang and Microsoft to allow save transfers. We're hoping to get some clarity on the matter soon.
A Microsoft spokesperson has since told OXM that it is "exploring ways to bring gamers' favourite content to the new Xbox, but do not have any additional information to announce at this time."
The exec continued, "We're seeing tremendous usage of Minecraft on the system, so we wanted to make sure it was one of the things that were there for people to go and create on day one. Obviously this is Mojang's game, and I've had good discussions with Notch about where he sees this franchise going, trying to create a more connected Minecraft world where your creations can go with you from device to device, but I haven't talked to them about where they are on that path."
