GTA: regular sequels would "degrade" franchise, says Take Two exec

Grand Theft Auto would be harmed if Take-Two pushed for more frequent sequels, the publisher's chief operating officer Karl Slatoff has said.

"Often times people ask us 'Why don't you come out with Grand Theft Auto every two years?'" Slatoff said during the Wedbush Transformational Technologies Conference, as reported by Gamespot.

"To us, that doesn't make sense, because Grand Theft Auto, every single time it comes out, is a brand new experience. You can't possibly do that in two years.

"And if we did that, our product would fatigue and the franchise would degrade from a value perspective."

Both Rockstar and patent company Take Two have been adamant that Grand Theft Auto would resist the lure of pumping out rapid sequels, despite being one of the industry's best-selling franchises. Grand Theft Auto 4 has generated over 25 million copies worldwide to date.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is due in September on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and is expected to sell by the boatload. Take-Two is also throwing talk around about an "extensive" line up of unannounced games. We may need bigger boats.
