League of Legends Season Two World Championship goes to Taipei Assassins
Taiwanese team Taipei Assassins has secured a $1 million grand prize in the League of Legends Season Two World Championship.
Taipei Assassins lost its first match to Korea's Azubu Frost before storming back to win the next three matches in a row. Both teams were involved in a cheating scandal earlier in the playoffs; TA was cleared but AF was fined $30,000.
The victorious team takes home a grand prize of $1 million top of other prizes won throughout the series; the overall season had a prize pool of $5 million, an eSports record.
A three-part finals replay has been published. Check it out on Twitch or see the first part embedded below.
The global grand final was held in the Galen center in Los Angeles and drew a sell-out crowd of 10,000 in addition to at least 900,000 stream viewers.
League of Legends has over 32 million active players per month and is arguably the most played video game in the world.
